After-School Program Teacher

Seeking Teacher for After-School Program that operates 5days per week from 2:00pm-6:00pm.  This is a part-time school year position.   Experience working with children of various ages, from Pre-K to Grade 8, in a classroom setting, and the ability to support the Catholic mission of the school is preferred.

Director of Music Ministries

Full Time Exempt Position, Benefits Eligible

REPORTS TO: Pastor                          

JOB PURPOSE: The Director of Music’s primary responsibility is to plan and conduct prayerful music programs in support of religious services, parish programs and as an accompanist as required.  A full-time work schedule shall be set in consultation with the Pastor.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a prayerful, singing assembly through celebration, preparation, and evaluation and through education and personal ministry

  • Support the gospel message through song and challenge the assembly to live it more fully with the cooperation and assistance of all the parish ministers

  • Build and sustain congregational song at weekend liturgies

  • Deepen the liturgical understanding and prayer of these assemblies through quarterly

education sessions

  • Help to increase regular attendance at these liturgies through the quality of music; 

  • Develop a plan to expand the 11:30 choir membership

  • Recruit, train, and sustain three regular cantors for all Masses

General Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Be responsible for all music associated with worship, religious education, social ministry, and evangelization in the parish which includes:

    • Directing four liturgies each weekend, including rehearsal/review time with each group and/or cantor

    • Arranging musical space before and after each liturgy; communicating with the presider, lectors, etc. 

  • Coordinate and staff all other liturgies with competent musicians

  • Participate in planning the liturgies with the Parish Liturgy Committee and be primarily responsible for the music selection of all regular and special celebrations.  The regular yearly liturgical celebrations include: 

    • Eucharistic celebrations on 52 Sundays (5 per weekend)

    • Christmas celebrations

    • Easter including Vigil, Holy Thursday, Good Friday

    • Holy days of obligation

    • Parish secular feasts 

    • Thanksgiving

    • All Souls’ Day

    • Communal sacramental celebrations of confirmation, reconciliation, anointing of the sick

    • Weddings (as needed); funerals (as needed)

    • And the following special days: 

    • First Communions (5)

    • Opening day of school

    • First Friday school Masses (9), graduation, closing day of school;

    • Monthly Confirmation Mass; 

    • Other special celebrations (as needed).

Other Responsibilities

  • Develop new opportunities for community members to participate in the music

      ministry of the parish

  • Establish an adult choir with regular rehearsals

  • Create and maintain a cantor program, working with the cantors to develop their

      skills and presentation

  • Special liturgical celebrations, e.g. the Pastor’s 25th anniversary of ordination

  • Rebuild the parish liturgy committee; 

  • Strengthen the children’s choir

  • Prepare wedding and funeral guidelines for the parish

  • Be available for funeral and wedding services as required. Funding for these services

      will be independent from the parish funding and the amount will be determined in

conjunction with the Pastor

  • Establish a more effective process for obtaining parish consultation on repertoire

      selection

  • Maintain websites (music page on parish website: wedding and funeral planning pages; online rehearsal pages for choirs, cantors and instrumentalists)

  • Participate in the revised parish budget process by submitting a timely budget

to the Pastor for approval

  • Parish staff meetings

  • Parish council meetings

  • Liturgical committee meetings  

  • Obtain continuing education in liturgical music through attendance at workshops and conferences. Parish financial support will be discussed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years prior experience as Music Director. 

  • BA degree in music is preferred. 

  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of Catholic Church teachings with particular   emphases in areas of liturgies and ceremonies. 

  • Must be skilled in using MS Office

PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE ELEMENTS:

  • Ability to use a computer keyboard for up to 8 hours/day. 

  • Ability to sit for up to 8 hours/day. 

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

Salary commensurate with experience.
